Free Time, Other Games.

So basically now i'm raiding only 2 days a week till firelands i'm finding myself with an increasing amount of spare time, so i thought i'd comment on a few games i've played recently and my opinions of them.

Dawn Of War 1

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I've always been a fan of the warhammer universe, i use to play the table top game mainly as the blood angels and tyranids ( I got kicked out of my store once because i abused the mutation rule in the old tyranid codex i had ripper swarms with venom cannons ;) ). So naturally i was thrilled when i found out an RTS game would be released revolving around the space marine chapter the Blood Ravens. The game follows Captain gabriel angelios a seasoned commander who seeks to rid his home sector of invaders. He is a character with alot of guilt on his shoulders but he never shows it, he had to destroy his own home planet by order of the ordo malius to rid the corruption of chaos ( Basically pure evil ) but in the process he in turn actually aided in the release of a major chaos demon who would later come back to haunt him in Dawn Of War 2. I loved both the game play ( warcraft 3 style base building unit building ) but i also loved the story 8/10.

The trailer for the first game was awesome when it was released so i thought i'd link it if you were intressted.

Dawn Of War 2

The second game had 2 trailers released one of which threw people off immensely thinking it would be a the choas god captain gabirel angelos set loose but it when the actual extended trailer came out o it made me fucking jizz in my pants. The tyranids finally made there apperence in the dawn of war franchaise.

For those of you who do not know the tyranids are an endless stream of monsters that consume everything in there path consuming thousands of worlds before the imperium of man can stop a hive fleet. This was going to be a game with an epic story.

The second game you play the roll of a new commander, a sudden emergence of orks has forced the blood ravens to defend there recruiting worlds once more. ( Without these the Blood Ravens would not be able to survive. ) With the blood ravens fleet away fighting other battles it is up to you to hold the line and find a weakness. You lose contact with Angelos and the fleet you think all is lost the stage is set for your final stand just before you get overwhelemed by the tyranids a hail of barrages come from the sky! Angelos makes it with the fleet and begins to easily destroy the posined hive fleet hovering above the planet. A truly epic ending to a truly great story.

Then the final two expansions finish the story of captain gabriel angelos. Chaos rising and Retribution.

In chaos rising a planet which once was full of life ( Aurelia which was sucked into the warp where chaos is ) suddenly appears and brings new horros to the sector. This story you are the commander trying to find out who the traitor is in your chapter. The story leads to many suspects but the ending is truly shocking and one which may destroy everything you have achieved.

You learn that the Chapter Master Lord Kyras ( The guy who tells everyone what to do without question or loyalty ) was possesed by the very demon which Angelos released with no proof though you are exiled from the chapter and chaos rising ends.

In retribution the story is exactly what the title says. When the imperium found out chaos had a foothold in the system the Ordo Mallius ( A huge fleet that will destroy entire systems if a hint of chaos is detected ) is sent to destroy the planets. It is a long drawn of process and in the end sadly despite all efforts Planet Typhon is destroyed and the final battle to save the rest of the sector happens on the very planet his own home world that he destroyed Cyrene.

Kyras takes his demon form a mega demon who kills Angelos ( or seemingly so ) before you reach him in time to save him. It is up to you to finish the job and stop the rest of the system being destroyed and you do it in the nick of time.

The end cinematic made me happy as Angelos did survive, though he needed alot of metal implants. Obviously he then became the Chapter Master of the Blood Ravens.
